A California CPA since 1972, Marc Lumer established his own firm in 1976, serving a dynamic, entrepreneurial client base. His clients are characterized by their orientation toward progress and growth, regardless of the age of the business.
Marc is currently associated with MD Sassi Co. and Peter Friedman, CPA’s. His responsibilities are concurring partner and quality control in audit, tax planning, and litigation support.
In addition to running his own firm, Marc has devoted many years of public service on behalf of small businesses. He is a regular participant in the Securities and Exchange Commission Forum on Small Business Capital Access, is a co-founder and treasurer of the California Capital Access Forum, and was a delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Small Business. He has served on technical issues panels, directed breakout sessions for the SEC and California Small Business Forums, was a co-founder of Accountants for the Public Interest, and through California Capital Access Forum, has provided technical support to the California Trade and Commerce Agency. In July 2002 Marc helped to draft Small Business amendments to the Sarbanes-Oxley bill (known as Senate Bill 2673).
Marc is a member of the Board of Directors and is an Audit Committee member of two not-for-profit organizations, The Making Waves Foundation and The Institute for Bird Populations. He is also a Western Region member of The Workers Tax Committee. He has provided testimony before the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the California State Senate Appropriations Committee, the California Assembly Commission on Revenue and Taxation, the U.S. Unemployment Tax Task Force, the California State Bar Association Securities Committee, and the Golden Gate Transit District Board.
Marc’s articles have been published in professional newsletters. He has assisted in the drafting of the annual Final Report of the SEC Government Business on Small Business Capital Formation since 1998, and produced the first-ever Spanish-language Form 1040.
